Under the Tax Code, nonprofits are not permitted to engage in partisan political activity. Under FCC regulations Broadcast Television stations are required to operate in the public interest. Both corporations and nonprofits are prohibited under the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 from making campaign contributions to political candidates.
Debates are not news! You can report news based on them but in and of themselves, they aren’t news. If general election debates are organized in a partisan manner, the sponsors are in violation of the BCRA since they are making in kind corporate contributions to the DiNicola and Kelly Campaigns. DiNicola and Kelly are themselves also in violation for accepting the illegal contributions. Should we not be permitted to participate, complaints will be filed with the Federal Election Commission against the offenders.
WJET - TV, the Manufacturer & Business Association , Mercyhurst University and WQLN - TV have all chosen to take part in perpetrating a fraud on the voters of the 16th Congressional District.
Contact them and let them know you want to hear from all of the options that will be on the ballot on November 8th. Stop censoring the voices of the people!
