Congressional debate set for Oct. 8 in Erie

WJET- TV, the Manufacturer and Business Association, Mercyhurst University and WQLN-TV are sponsoring these debates. As of yet, the Beeman campaign has not been contacted. Under the Tax Code, nonprofits are not permitted to engage in partisan political activity. Under FCC regulations Broadcast Television stations are required to operate in the public interest. Both corporations and non-profits are prohibited under the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002  from making campaign contributions to political candidates. Debates are not news! You can report news based on them but in and of themselves, they aren’t news. If general election debates are organized in a partisan manner the sponsors are in violation of the BCRA. Should we not be permitted to participate, complaints will be filed with the Federal Election Commission against the offenders.

The Beeman for Congress campaign is prepared to debate Mike Kelly and/or Ron Dinacola anytime, anywhere.

This is a perfect example of what we mean when we say the media acts as the Press organs for the Democrats and Republicans.

We were not contacted for this story, we got one sentence in the story.

We are not playing these games about debating about the debates. The Beeman campaign believes that debates are an important part of the civic conversation and if Kelly and DiNicola want to behave like children, Mr. Beeman is prepared to be the adult in the room.

There can be no meaningful debate  if the Beeman Campaign isn't there.  The other candidates aren't discussing any real issues.  Further, these debates are generally sponsored by non-profit organizations or for profit Corporations. Under the Tax Code, nonprofits are not permitted to engage in partisan political activity. And both of these groups are prohibited under  the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002  from making campaign contributions to political candidates. Should any debate or forum take place which the Beeman campaign isn't permitted to participate, complaints will be filed with the Federal Election Commission against the offenders.
